3 Reasons You May Be Experiencing Neck Pain

Neck pain is one of the most common physical ailments that affect millions of people every year. It’s been estimated that as many as 7 out of 10 people will experience neck pain at some point in their life. But despite how common neck pain is, it’s not always clear why a person may be experiencing it. And without resolving the underlying cause, then neck pain may not go away on it’s own–or, it could keep coming back.

This is why professional chiropractic and physiotherapy care is so important in the treatment of neck pain. At Full Body Rejuvenation Center in Lithonia, Georgia, our staff treats not only the structural aspects of neck pain, but also the physiological, neurological, emotional and environmental aspects, too. We are committed to identifying and treating our patients’ pain, as well as preventing the pain from recurring and improving our patients’ quality of living.

What could be causing my neck pain?

1. Acute Joint Locking or Ligament Sprain. You have many small joints in your spine. Sometimes, one or some of these joints can become stiff or “locked,” which can be very painful. The supportive ligaments around your joints may also become injured in the process.

2. Improper posture and body mechanics. Poor body alignment–especially during repetitive work tasks, such as lifting or typing–can lead to chronic stress on neck joints, muscles, and ligaments. Chiropractors are skilled at educating patients on ways to improve their daily tasks and maintain optimal biomechanics.

3. Muscle Strain. Any one of your spinal muscles can become strained, which occurs when the fibers are damaged or torn. This may happen due to an acute injury, such as a whiplash following a car accident. But sometimes a muscle strain is caused by some other underlying factor, which is why consulting with a professional chiropractor is so critical.
